Good luck!. In my opinion, you need to know following people very well apart from money if you want to lead the same lifestyle.
1. MLA or MP (Even to get good school admission you need recommendation)
2. DSP or SP level police officer (to have security in life)
3. Thasildar level officer (to have your property secure)
4. Local Dhadha's support (to protect from land acquisition, other dadhas)
5. Good neighbors, teachers and relatives (to protect our loved ones spouse/kids from emotional attack)
And of course at least 2 crores cash (half million US $??). I don't have anything right now, so I would love to spend my rest of live here hoping to get GC some day in my life.

If you happen to be in a police case (auto accident, robbery etc), you'll know how important it is to have links with the police and local politicians, otherwise someone will screw you and you won't be able to do anything.

Got receipt notice for I-485/AP/EAD/ from USCIS today (8/30/2007). My package was delivered to Nebraska center on July/27/2007. Notice date is August 21st, 2007. My priority date is Dec/23rd/2003.

"Are you sure?, have you got the cards yet?, Did you finish biometrics?" Some eb3 folks said "We will get ours too, some issue with finger prints , my husband's boss is very close to the congressman and we have influence in INS", some say "Your lawyer did some magic" etc.....
People carry such mindsets, it is difficult to bring about awareness and change.

agree, it cannot be really changed by us. even if people willingly try to achieve a new mindset with positive programming, it takes months to achieve.

How did you let go of it. Did you have to tell the canadian consulate and send in your passport for them to remove your visa. I will be hitting the 3 year mark end of this year.

Nma check is history now. After filed I-485, and 180 days passed, name check is not a factor for GC. If your NC is pending, still they issue you a GC.

People, the bill is called "Comprehensive Immigration Reform". It can only be comprehensive if it takes into account the legal population and the illegal population. This bill could not come at a better time for us with the mid-term elections coming up. The Executive Branch of Government is pressuring for passage of this legislation. It will be a huge issue for the mid-term elections. The Republican House is in a no win situation, passage means amnesty (their words, not mine) and non-passage makes them look ineffective. For now all we can do is sit back and wait and watch. It will take the majority of the house spin doctors a while to figure out how to proceed with maximum benefit for the Republican Party. This is the nature of politics.
For a little entertainment, we can always predict next months visa bulletin! (Sorry, I couldn't resist).

Ok. My bad. I was using lame duck as an example. I'm not hoping anything on the lame duck session.
My question is/was, how long it takes for a bill(passed) to be effective. Is there a timeline within which President has to sign it? Once he signs it how long does it take become effective?
PS: I was guessing, I'm not sure of the 90 days time period.

You are in the EB3 category, do you ever wonder why somebody who is more educated than you or me, makes more money? Can we say, hey you I was born in 1890 I should make more money, it does not fly, EB3 is not a reflection on your skills but more the job you hold.
The question you should ask is why have EB1, 2, 3, etc?
Why do you not include the family based categories, isn't family first, why not the EB spill over to to FB first then whatever trickles down comes to EB, is not this fair? I am sure there are a lot in the FB queue who have waited for longer than you. Now dont tell you you are better than FB because you are highly skilled, pay taxes, etc.

If you download the 485 form from the following url and go to page six, it states
"The check or money order should be made payable to theDepartment of Homeland Security"
I believe previously it used to be USCIS. Now what I dont know is if they will accept checks made for USCIS or not.
